This past weekend’s Summer in the City festival in Steinbach turned chaotic as the RCMP, in collaboration with Manitoba RCMP Traffic Services, found themselves inundated with emergency calls and incidents.
35 Charged in a Series of Disturbing Incidents
A staggering 35 individuals were charged with a variety of offenses, including speeding, dangerous driving, impaired operation of a vehicle, break and enter, and possession of weapons. Additionally, 31 provincial offense notices were issued, indicating the level of disorder that unfolded during the festival.
Fight Erupts: Knife Wielding Suspect Arrested
Among the alarming incidents, one notable fight broke out on Friday night around 9:00 p.m. at the fairgrounds. Witnesses reported a group of males engaged in a brawl, one of whom brandished a knife. Authorities swiftly apprehended a 20-year-old local man for possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and he was later released pending a court date.
Car Collision Leads to Arrest and Hospitalization
On Saturday, a chilling motor vehicle accident was reported around 5:46 p.m. in the Giant Tiger parking lot. A 19-year-old driver crashed into a barricade and struck a pedestrian. He was subsequently arrested for dangerous operation of a motor vehicle but was released for a future court appearance. The pedestrian, a 21-year-old male, thankfully suffered only non-life-threatening injuries and was treated at a nearby hospital.
Assault Reported Near Bethesda Hospital
Early Sunday morning, police were called to Bethesda Hospital after a 54-year-old man reported an assault involving a baton and a BB gun while walking near Main Street. The investigation into this serious incident is still ongoing, with no arrests made yet.
Business Break-Ins Lead to Multiple Arrests
The RCMP also responded to break-and-enter incidents at two businesses located on Keating Road and Reimer Avenue, resulting in three males being arrested and released for future court appearances, while one was remanded into custody.
As the dust settles from this turbulent weekend, the Steinbach RCMP continue their investigations, reminding the community to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities.
