CF Montréal has made a strategic move by acquiring talented striker Giacomo Vrioni from the New England Revolution. As part of the deal, the Revolution will retain a portion of Vrioni's salary for 2025 and receive $50,000 in General Allocation Money (GAM), along with a sell-on percentage for future transfers. This acquisition allows Montréal to utilize Vrioni as a Designated Player, a crucial role for high-impact players.

Montréal's president and CEO Gabriel Gervais expressed his excitement about the signing, stating, “We are thrilled to welcome Giacomo, a talented left-footed striker, who is renowned for his finishing ability and effectiveness in front of goal both in MLS and in Europe. He is known for his dynamic off-the-ball movements and ability to penetrate defenses, making him a perfect fit for our attacking style.”

At just 26, Vrioni brings significant experience from his time in both Major League Soccer (MLS) and Europe, having previously played for Serie A giants Juventus FC before joining the Revolution in July 2022. His transfer came shortly after the team moved Polish international Adam Buksa to RC Lens in Ligue 1.

With the recent loan of forward Matías Cóccaro to LIGA MX's Atlas FC and the decision not to renew Josef Martínez's contract, Montreal is looking to Vrioni to step into the central striker role, filling a critical need in their attacking strategy.

Curt Onalfo, sporting director for New England Revolution, praised Vrioni's contributions during his time with the club, saying, “Giacomo is a class act on and off the field. We thank Giacomo for his contributions during his three seasons with our club and wish him all the best with CF Montréal,” reflecting a sentiment of goodwill as he transitions to his new team.

In addition to acquiring Vrioni, the Revolution has recently set a record by bringing in striker Leo Campana from Inter Miami CF for an astounding $2.5 million in guaranteed GAM. They are also reportedly close to finalizing a loan deal for Cameroon international Ignatius Ganago from Ligue 1’s FC Nantes.

As New England Revolution aims to rebound from a disappointing 14th-place finish in the Eastern Conference and their failure to qualify for the Audi MLS Cup Playoffs in two of the last three seasons, these roster changes represent a pivotal moment for the club—one which could dramatically reshape their future. Fans will be watching closely to see how these new additions influence the upcoming season.
