Dr. Pahud elaborates on the nature of planetary orbits: “The planets orbit the sun at varying speeds. For instance, Mercury completes its orbit in just a few months, while Jupiter takes about 12 years. As you move outward in the solar system, the orbital periods lengthen.” All these heavenly bodies, however, travel through the same plane, known as the ecliptic, creating an arc across the sky that mirrors the sun's daily path.
