Tragic news has struck the journalism community as veteran Canadian journalist Beverly Thomson has passed away at the young age of 61. Her death marks the end of a remarkable career that spanned over three decades.

A Toronto native, Thomson was a household name, best known for her role as co-host on CTV's iconic show Canada AM. She later made waves anchoring Toronto's evening news program at Global News.

Sean O'Shea, a fellow reporter from Global News Toronto, expressed his profound sadness over her passing. He fondly reminisced about their time together at the anchor desk, where Beverly's kindness and warmth shone through, especially during personal conversations about their children. "Bev was always professional and well-prepared for her interviews. She took her work seriously but knew how to enjoy life. She truly connected with our audience and spread joy wherever she went," said O'Shea.

Thomson's journey was not without struggles; she had a long battle with cancer, first diagnosed in 2002. Her fight against the disease inspired many, and she became a passionate advocate for breast cancer awareness and fundraising efforts.

She had a knack for interviewing some of the world’s most prominent figures, from politicians to A-list celebrities, showcasing her incredible versatility and talent. Throughout her illustrious career, she garnered numerous accolades, including the prestigious Order of Canada in 2019 and a lifetime achievement award from the Radio Television Digital News Association of Canada, which was awarded just last November.
