Catastrophic Wildfires Ignite Urgent Response

As devastating wildfires wreak havoc in Los Angeles, claiming the lives of at least five individuals, the federal government of Canada is mobilizing to send crucial resources as soon as Thursday night. Emergency Preparedness Minister Harjit Sajjan announced via social media platform X that Ontario, Quebec, and Alberta are prepared to deploy a contingent of 250 firefighters, aircraft, and additional resources to assist in the urgent firefighting efforts.

Quebec and Alberta Contribute Resources

In addition to federal support, Quebec's forest fire protection agency, SOPFEU, has mobilized two water bombers that were previously scheduled to be in the region. This contract has been extended into January due to the emergency at hand. Alberta's Premier Danielle Smith also announced on X that her province is preparing to send an incident command team and additional wildfire-fighting resources, including water bombers and night-vision helicopters.
