Carlos Alcaraz wowed fans once again with a stellar performance in the third round of the US Open, continuing his impressive winning streak.
The Spanish sensation breezed through his initial rounds against Reilly Opelka and Mattia Bellucci, both matches ending in straight sets. In round three, he faced Italy's 32nd seed, Luciano Darderi, and dispatched him with remarkable ease, winning 6-2, 6-4, 6-0, securing his path into the last 16.
However, during the match, a moment of concern arose when Alcaraz called for the physio in the second set.
Alcaraz Assures Fans: "I'm Not Worried"
Following the match, Alcaraz addressed the situation, explaining that he felt a slight issue with his knee just after serving. He stated, "No, I'm feeling good. I just asked for the physio when he broke my serve; at that last point, I felt something in my knee, but it went away after a few points. I wanted to make sure I was ready for the last set."
He added, "I'm going to talk to my team, but I’m not worried about it."
Adjusting to Early Matches
While the knee issue appeared minor, Alcaraz noted challenges with the early match schedule, as he had to compete at 11:30 AM, a time he isn’t used to. "I’m not an early morning person; waking up for this was tough. My goal was to start focused and with energy," he remarked.
A Passion for Golf Off the Court
On his days off, Alcaraz often switches gears by hitting the golf course, believing it to be vital for maintaining his mental clarity and performance. "I’m just trying to switch off my mind, not think about tennis, and find relaxation elsewhere. Golf helps me feel calm and rejuvenated so that I can bring my best to the court with a smile," he explained.
Despite the early start and minor concerns, Alcaraz's confidence remains high. He has now extended his ATP Tour winning streak to an impressive nine matches, a run that began at the Cincinnati Open.
Looking Ahead: Can Alcaraz Keep the Streak Alive?
As he prepares to face Arthur Rinderknech in the fourth round, eyes are glued to see if he can notch his tenth consecutive win. The anticipation builds—will the young star continue his dominance at the US Open?
