Capstan Canada Line Station Set to Transform Richmond Commute!
In an exciting development for public transportation in Richmond, TransLink is officially opening the new Capstan Canada Line station this Friday at 11 a.m. This much-anticipated station, strategically located between Bridgeport and Aberdeen stations, is expected to significantly enhance the connectivity for local residents.
The grand opening ceremony will feature key figures, including TransLink CEO Kevin Quinn, Richmond Mayor Malcolm Brodie, and Musqueam Indian Band Chief Wayne Sparrow. Their attendance underscores the importance of this project to both the local community and the wider transit network.
Construction of the Capstan Station commenced in 2021, and it comes as a welcome addition to the area, which is seeing a boom in residential development. With plans for 4,000 to 6,000 new residential units underway in Capstan Village, this station is poised to cater to an increasing number of commuters.
Back in 2019, TransLink reported that more than 37,000 passengers utilized the Canada Line on an average weekday between Bridgeport and Aberdeen stations. With the opening of the Capstan Station, these numbers are expected to rise, further alleviating traffic congestion and providing a sustainable transportation alternative.
The total investment for the Capstan Station was $52 million, funded through a partnership between TransLink, the City of Richmond, and contributions from local developers. This collaboration illustrates a commitment to improving public transit infrastructure to support urban growth.
