Feast of Flapjacks Breaks Records!

The hungry residents of Calgary gathered at the Cadillac Fairview Chinook Centre on Saturday for a sensational Stampede Breakfast, achieving an astonishing world record for pancakes served in a mere eight hours.

A Sweet Success!

With about three and a half hours left on the clock, this lively gathering surpassed the previous record set by an IHOP in Santa Monica, California, serving a grand total of 26,994 pancakes in just under 4.5 hours. Darren Milne, the mall's general manager, praised the efficiency of their operation, stating, "We’ve been doing these public breakfasts for 65 years, so we’ve got a pretty good system!"

More Than Just Pancakes!

While pancake lovers were encouraged to indulge, the event wasn't just about the delicious flapjacks. An estimated 35,000 people flocked to the celebration, many enjoying live music and various activities beyond the breakfast fare. Milne remarked, "Some people might just come out to listen to music—there are a lot of different activities at the breakfast beyond the food."

A Team Effort!

A crucial component of this pancake phenomenon was the dedicated team of retired city firefighters, who showed up early to prepare massive quantities of batter. Some of these volunteers have been part of the event for over 40 years, showcasing their commitment to community service.

Official Recognition!

To commemorate the achievement, a verification official from the world records organization was present to confirm the count, with a plaque presented to the new record-holders just an hour after the event concluded.

This delightful breakfast not only filled stomachs but also fostered a spirit of camaraderie, proving that when Calgarians come together, they can accomplish deliciously remarkable feats!
