In a shocking turn of events, a man and woman have been apprehended for their involvement in a startling distraction theft in North York that targeted an elderly victim.

The crime occurred on September 20, around 2:25 PM, in the Rustic and Liscombe roads area. Authorities report that an elderly individual was innocently sitting outside their home when a woman initiated a seemingly friendly conversation.

However, while engaging the victim, this cunning thief skillfully diverted their attention and made off with valuable jewelry, fleeing the scene with an accomplice.

The Arrests

Police quickly identified 35-year-old Ionel Petter from Toronto, who now faces serious charges, including:

- Theft over $5000

- Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000

- Participation in a criminal organization

- Driving a vehicle without plates

Petter is set to appear before the Toronto Regional Bail Centre.

Simultaneously, 33-year-old Florina Gheorghe, also from Toronto, has been arrested and charged with similar offenses, reinforcing the connection between these alleged criminals and their orchestrated theft.
