On November 4, YVR announced this initiative in response to growing congestion at the airport's curbside, aimed at enhancing traffic flow and improving the overall experience for guests. With the introduction of this new policy, drivers can now get close to the terminal without the hassle of waiting at curbside.

However, it’s important to note that while this complimentary parking is a welcome change, YVR has also increased its hourly and daily parking rates for the parkade. Now, the cost for additional parking has jumped to $14 every 30 minutes, with a daily maximum charge of $65—a significant rise from the previous rates of $5.50 for half an hour and $11 hourly, with a daily cap of $40.

In a more positive vein, travelers utilizing the Gateway Valet service will benefit from a price reduction. The new rate is set at $28 per hour, accompanied by a one-time $20 valet fee. This is a drop from the earlier fee of $50 per hour.

These updated rates took effect on November 13 at midnight, prompting travelers to adjust their plans accordingly.

So, why the sudden shift in parking fees? YVR expressed that the parkade is designed for hourly use and brief stays, making the new free half-hour policy not only convenient but also a strategy to alleviate congestion at the curb. For travelers with short trips, this parkade access is ideal, allowing easy terminal access without the stress of traffic.

For those considering other parking options, YVR maintains the original pricing for its JetSet and Value Long-Term parking options. The JetSet parking offers free valet services, although travelers need to take a free shuttle to the terminal. Prices fluctuate based on availability. On the other hand, the Value Long Term Parking, located near the Templeton Canada Line Station, remains the most affordable choice at $4.25 hourly or $27.50 daily, with convenient train access to the airport.
