Bay d’Espoir Highway Allows Limited Traffic!

Great news for travelers! After days of disruption caused by the Martin’s Lake fire, the Bay d’Espoir Highway is reopening—albeit under strict conditions. Officials are optimistic about the access resuming today, as they escort vehicles along this crucial route.

Escorted, One-Lane Traffic Returns!

Starting this morning and continuing until 4:00 p.m., escorted traffic will be allowed to move through the highway, but keep in mind: it’s one lane at a time! MHA Elvis Loveless expressed hope that if weather conditions improve, they might expand access even further.

While the road situation is being managed, water travel options have also been enhanced. The Marine Trader will run a return trip for up to 40 passengers between Recontre East, Pool’s Cove, and Bay L’Argent. Plus, the Sound of Islay has launched a new vehicle-passenger service connecting Hermitage-Sandyville with Fortune on the Burin Peninsula.
