A Disturbing January Incident

In a startling turn of events, two individuals have been slapped with attempted murder charges following a harrowing shooting that occurred in Markham back in January.

Details of the Shooting

The shocking incident unfolded on January 21 at around 5:30 p.m. near Lee Avenue and Noble Street, close to Highway 407 and Kennedy Road. Eyewitnesses were left rattled as York Regional Police shared disturbing footage showing a suspect clad in a neon construction vest and helmet approaching a woman from behind before opening fire.

A Narrow Escape

In a twist of fate, the assailant's weapon malfunctioned, providing the woman with a crucial opportunity to flee. The footage captured the suspect struggling with the gun before firing two additional shots at the home, then hastily retreating to a parked vehicle and speeding off.

Immediate Response

Upon arrival, police discovered the victim suffering from a gunshot wound. Fortunately, her injuries were categorized as non-life-threatening, and she was promptly transported to the hospital for treatment.

Break in the Case

Following extensive investigations, law enforcement officials executed a search warrant at a residence in Markham on August 7, culminating in the arrest of one suspect. A Canada-wide warrant was subsequently issued for the second suspect.

Suspects in Custody

In a significant development, on September 16, police reported the capture of the second suspect. Identified as Chao Chen, 35, and Zhou Ye, 42, both men now face serious charges, including attempted murder and conspiracy to commit murder.
