Apple has finally hit the jackpot with its latest film, 'F1', marking its first genuine box office triumph.

While Apple TV+ has garnered praise with award-winning films, even claiming an Academy Award for Best Picture with 'Coda', its theatrical ventures have struggled. The tech giant's ambitious budget films often fell short at the box office, culminating in the spectacular flop 'Argylle'.

However, fortunes have changed with 'F1', currently dominating theaters and on track to gross an impressive $55.6 million this weekend alone in the domestic market. With a staggering $144 million in global ticket sales, it’s poised to outstrip 'Napoleon', which raked in $228 million, as Apple’s highest-grossing film.

Directed by Joseph Kosinski, known for the blockbuster 'Top Gun: Maverick', 'F1' cleverly echoes the Maverick formula, combining immersive cinematography—where Brad Pitt is actually behind the wheel—with a classic storyline about an experienced veteran mentoring a rebellious young prodigy.

This movie's timing couldn’t be better, capitalizing on the surge of interest in Formula One racing in the U.S., significantly boosted by Netflix’s hit docuseries 'Drive to Survive'. Notably, much of the filming took place at actual Formula One races, with racing star Lewis Hamilton even serving as a producer.

In a collaboration that speaks volumes, Apple CEO Tim Cook joined Hamilton for a recent Variety cover story. Cook revealed that the tech powerhouse infused unique elements into 'F1', particularly their cutting-edge camera technology, and emphasized the company's collective support for the film, even involving retail operations—all amid mixed responses from customers regarding this cross-promotion.
