Alarming Surge in Vehicle Rock-Throwing Incidents in Markham

Provincial police in Ontario are sounding the alarm as they report an alarming increase in incidents involving rocks being hurled at vehicles in the Markham region. This disturbing trend follows a particularly severe incident on September 20, when two individuals sustained life-threatening injuries after a rock was allegedly thrown directly at a car's windshield during a two-vehicle collision.

On the same night, around 10:30 p.m., authorities received two additional reports of rocks striking the windshields of vehicles traveling northbound on Highway 48, just north of Elgin Mills. Fortunately, the drivers in these cases only experienced minor injuries and were promptly taken to the hospital. However, since then, there have been no further reports of new injuries linked to these incidents.

The police are currently in pursuit of suspects involved in these reckless acts, but as of now, no specific suspect information has been released to the public. This recent spate of incidents has prompted the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) to issue a call to action, urging anyone who may have witnessed suspicious activity along Highway 48, particularly between the hours of 10:30 p.m. and 11 p.m. on September 20, to come forward. They are also requesting any dash cam or surveillance footage that could aid in their investigation.
