Measles Cases on the Rise in Manitoba

This year has seen a troubling surge in measles cases across Manitoba, with a staggering 15 individuals, including 12 young children, requiring hospitalization.

Critical Condition Alert!

The statistics, collected from January 1 to September 6, indicate that two of those hospitalized were admitted to the intensive care unit, raising serious concerns about the severity of the outbreak. Alarmingly, 14 of these 15 patients were unvaccinated, and the vaccination status of the remaining individual remains unknown.

Urgent Call for Vaccination!

In an official statement, a provincial spokesperson emphasized, "The province continues to encourage immunization as the only effective safeguard against measles and its severe consequences." With the majority of these hospitalizations occurring during the summer months—particularly in June, July, and August—it's evident that the risk remains high.

Where Are the Cases Coming From?

A significant concentration of cases has been reported from the Southern Health region, which accounted for 10 of the afflicted individuals. This latest spike adds to an already alarming total of 198 confirmed measles cases since February.

Protect Yourself and Your Community!

As the Manitoba government grapples with this serious public health issue, it’s essential for everyone to consider vaccination not just for individual protection but for the safety of the entire community. Don't let measles make a comeback!
