Airbus's Commitment to Canada Strengthens!
In a bold statement, Benoit Schultz, the President and CEO of Airbus Canada, has expressed unwavering confidence in the A220 program, insisting that its troubles are behind it. During the opening of the new Mirabel Delivery Centre (CDL), where airlines come to officially accept their aircraft, Schultz affirmed, "Airbus is in Canada, in Quebec, to stay!" He emphasized that the company made a significant investment in this program seven years ago, aiming for a long-term partnership that would deliver exceptional value to customers.
Overcoming Challenges!
While the aviation industry faced numerous hurdles during the pandemic and tariff-related challenges, the A220 also struggled with engine issues linked to its Pratt & Whitney geared-turbofan (GTF). Specifically, problems with the powered-metal coating affected the aircraft's time-on-wing (ToW) interval. However, Schultz reported a promising turnaround, revealing that recent engine deliveries are now reaching nearly 10,000 hours before needing heavy maintenance checks, with more enhancements on the horizon.
A Bright Future Ahead!
With these developments, Airbus Canada is not only signaling resilience but also a bright future for the A220 program. Their focus on continuous improvement and strong commitment to the Canadian market assures both consumers and industry partners that they are here for the long haul.
