CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. — Astronomers have made an exciting discovery about a comet hailing from another star! Recent observations reveal that this mesmerizing comet is developing a more pronounced tail as it journeys through our solar system.

Captured last month by the Gemini South telescope in Chile, the latest images provide a clearer view of the comet, showcasing a broad coma of dust and gas enveloping the icy nucleus. These spectacular photos confirm that the comet's activity is increasing as it hurtles toward the sun.

Known as 3I-Atlas, this remarkable interstellar visitor is only the third of its kind detected passing through our cosmic neighborhood. On Thursday, NASA reported that 3I-Atlas was situated 238 million miles (384 million kilometers) from Earth and steadily getting closer.

Mark your calendars: this comet is expected to make its closest approach to the sun at the end of October, followed by an even closer flyby near Earth in December, at a distance of 167 million miles (269 million kilometers) — still farther away than the sun!
