September 2, 2025, marked a monumental day for healthcare in northern Alberta as the Health Education Centre at Grande Prairie Regional Hospital celebrated the arrival of its first cohort in the Northern Alberta Medical Program (NAMP)—a pioneering initiative designed to reshape medical education in the region.

With 30 eager students officially commencing their studies, this program is the result of a collaborative effort between Northwestern Polytechnic (NWP) and the University of Alberta, responding to the province's call for improved access to medical education.

"These students will not only be studying at our state-of-the-art centre for the next two years, but they'll also have opportunities to gain real-world experience in various northern communities as they progress in their education," she stated.
