Janz, who anchored news programs at CTV Calgary (formerly CFCN) from 1973 until his retirement in 2013, was widely regarded as a central figure in the news landscape of the region. "He truly was the face of the news for so many families," Barb Higgins, who co-anchored with Janz for 21 years starting in 1989, shared fondly.

Bill (William) Clements, who worked with Janz on a talk show titled *Legacy Makers* in 2017, emphasized the profound influence Janz had over the years. “He is, without a doubt, the epitome of a legacy maker who resonated through multiple generations,” he said. Bill recounted how Janz's long tenure in broadcasting made him feel like part of the family: "It was almost like he was in their living rooms—a comforting presence during significant moments."

The tributes continued with Bill’s wife, Jacqueline, who acknowledged Janz's character, noting, “He was the most welcoming person. The first thing that comes to mind when I think of him is how much of a true gentleman he was.”

Reflecting on his dedication to the craft, Jacqueline mentioned that Janz had no plans to step away from broadcasting. In fact, he was last seen in the studio just a month prior to his passing. “If you wanted to use a cowboy term, he wanted to die with his boots on,” Clements stated, underscoring Janz's unwavering passion and commitment.

His former colleagues remain in shock. Higgins expressed her deep emotional connection to Janz, recounting a meaningful video call they shared shortly before his passing. “It meant a lot, just to see him and tell him I love him," she shared, visibly moved.
